Federal authorities indicted two Fort Peck tribal members in separate cases.

Joshua James Burshia, of Brockton, and Trevor Birdsbill, of Wolf Point, were arraigned in Great Falls Federal Court Tuesday, June 7, 2022. Both are alleged to have raped someone, and both pled not guilty.

Burshia is currently detained. Birdsbill was released pending further proceedings.

Burshia is charged with aggravated sexual abuse and sexual abuse of a minor. He is alleged to have kept a 14-year-old girl locked in his home against her will.

If convicted of the most serious crime, Burshia faces life in prison, a $250,000 fine and at least five years to life of supervised release. Burshia was detained pending further proceedings. The FBI and Fort Peck Law Enforcement Services investigated the case.

Birdsbill, 32, is charged with aggravated sexual abuse. If convicted of the most serious crime Birdsbill faces a maximum of life in prison, a $250,000 fine and five years to life of supervised release.
