“Prey” is a prequel set to premiere this summer

A Fort Peck tribal member is the star of the latest “Predator” franchise movie.

Actress and Fort Peck tribal member Amber Midthunder.

Actress Amber Midthunder, 25, is the daughter of “Westworld” actor David Midthunder, also a Fort Peck tribal member.

According to her biography, Amber was born in Santa Fe, N.M., to David and Angelique Midthunder. With her father being an actor and her mother a casting director, Amber quickly picked up an interest in acting at a very young age.

“I’m beyond words” she wrote on Instagram. Midthunder said she was “feeling proud, humbled, and excited to finally be able to share this news and have been given this opportunity,”

“It is time we see ourselves represented fully in mainstream entertainment. As strong and human, by our own people. I can’t wait for you all to see what we made this summer. Ʉra ako & pilamaye.” she wrote.

For years, Hollywood has not recognized indigenous people accurately on the Silver Screen. Native actors are very under-represented in the industry.

Plot

Set 300 years ago in the Comanche Nation, Prey follows young warrior Naru as she fights to protect her people from the deadly ‘Predator’ aliens, according to people.com.

Naru is describes as being fierce and highly skilled. In the trailer, Naru says, “It knows how to hunt. I know how to survive. Whatever did this, I can kill it.” This ends up turning into her facing off against the Predator aliens with their highly advanced weaponry in a “vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”

According to her IMBD page, the film is in post production and scheduled to appear on Hulu on August 5, 2022.
