Doratello Juan Fischer

A Wolf Point man convicted of murder was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Doratello “DJ” Juan Fischer appeared in Great Falls Federal Court Tuesday, June 21, 2022, for sentencing.

Fischer, 37, pleaded guilty in November 2021 to second degree murder as charged in an information. Fischer shot Cody Weeks Combs, 28, in the back with a .22-caliber rifle.

Before sentencing, Combs’ mother Frances Weeks told the court Fischer has a “cool attitude” about everything and seems to think going to prison is a right of passage. With that, Judge Brian Morris issued the sentence.

Federal Court documents state on Nov. 27, 2020, Fischer shot Combs in the back with a .22-caliber rifle, killing him. Before this, Fischer was driving around Wolf Point, drinking alcohol with his girlfriend and another person that evening. While driving down an alley, Fischer told his girlfriend to stop the car and he then got out. Combs was standing outside of a residence near the alley. Fischer shot the victim in the back with a .22-caliber rifle, back, got back into the vehicle with his girlfriend and sped away. The rifle was never found.

The shooting occurred following a Nov. 24, 2020 incident at a Wolf Point bar where law enforcement responded to Combs brandishing a gun and pointing it at Fischer. The day  before Fischer shot Combs, Fischer used social media to communicate with another individual about Combs pointing a gun at him. Fischer said that he was planning on “coming to town to go hunting.”
