All enrolled tribal children of school age to get $600 each

All enrolled tribal children of school age will be getting $600 from the Tribes for back to school supplies.

During the Finance Committee meeting, the council passed a resolution to authorize $600 for every tribal child enrolled in school. The resolution passed with seven signatures on the document, approving the payments and a budget modification for the American Rescue Plan Act funding from the federal government.

All payments will be ready Thursday, August 4, 2022. Due to the steady rise in COVID-19 infections on the reservation, the council is working to figure out how to disperse these checks safely.

According to Fort Peck Tribal Sgt.-At-Arms Facebook page, $600 School clothes checks will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. August 4th 2022 at the Poplar Cultural Center. These checks are available to all fully enrolled children age 3 to 18 years old. Please bring tribal ID’s and any custody papers for pick up.

Any checks that aren’t picked up will be mailed Friday.

The notice further states: “ABSOLUTELY NO CHECKS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AT THE TRIBAL ADMIN BUILDING.”

*These checks will be available for off reservation children they will mailed out Friday- Monday*

According to the resolution, the $600 per school child is to help offset the impact of inflation, which has raised prices on everything.

Figures from the Tribal Education Department state approximately 3,500 tribal children are eligible for the payments.
