A Poplar woman is accused of providing dangerous drugs that ended up causing the death of another woman.

Danyell Rose Black Dog

Danyell Rose Black Dog, 22 was arrested last week by Tribal CI’s and the FBI. She was arraigned December 15, 2022, in Great Falls Federal Court. Black Dog pled not guilty to possession with intent to distribute meth and distribution of meth resulting in death. She is detained pending further court proceedings.

Violet Comeslast

Black Dog is charged with providing meth to Violet Comeslast, who took the drugs and died from a meth overdose.

Tribal Criminal Investigator Kenny Trottier said this is the first of several deaths that are being investigated. This is the same as second degree murder, he said.

Under federal law, second degree murder is carried out with intent but no premeditation (not planned or thought out).

These type of cases are difficult to prove, Trottier said. There are always issues of intent and proving intent can be difficult.

If convicted of the most serious charge, Black Dog could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison.
