Fort Peck Tribal Court was closed after officials discovered fentanyl contamination in one of the bathrooms.

Tribal leaders and court officials confirmed the contaminating fentanyl was discovered in the men’s bathroom near the front desk.

According to a memo from the Vice-Chairman’s office, the court will remain closed until further notice. For safety, and pending clearance from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, nobody will be allowed into the main building.

Juvenile hearings and adult arraignments will occur in the Juvenile Court Building, next to the main building. All other hearings have been rescheduled.

Arraignments will be done electronically.

The contamination of fentanyl on public facilities are of special concern to the federal government.

According to the Environmental Protect Agency, fentanyl contamination is especially dangerous because it takes so little to cause a fatal overdose.

This is not the first time drugs closed tribal facilities.

Juvenile Detention Center closed when methamphetamine contamination was found in the building.
